Coliba Ghana, a prominent plastic waste recycling company, has forged a strategic partnership with the Mohinani Group, the parent organization of PolyTank Ghana Limited, to enhance local recycling efforts.
Prince Kwame Agbata, co-founder and CEO of Coliba Ghana, announced the collaboration during an appearance on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Thursday, August 8.
He outlined an ambitious vision for establishing a fully circular economy where all recycled materials are retained within Ghana.
Currently, Coliba Ghana exports approximately 80% of its recycled plastic. Agbata expressed his commitment to reducing this figure to zero by 2030. “Our goal is to ensure that all recycled materials are processed and used locally, transforming our operations into a 100% bottle-to-bottle recycling system,” Agbata stated.
He further explained that while the company will continue to export a significant portion of its recycled materials to Europe in the short term, the long-term plan is to increase local sales to 20% and eventually achieve an entirely domestic recycling process.
“This approach aligns with the principles of a circular economy, where we minimize carbon footprints by keeping production and consumption within the local economy,” Agbata emphasized. “By doing so, we not only generate employment but also retain financial resources within the country.”
