Stand-up comedian Derick Kobina Bonney, popular as DKB, has shared his valuable perspective on Pastor Mensah Otabil’s recent comments about marriage and financial readiness, a viewpoint that is important to consider in our evolving society.

Pastor Otabil, the founder and general overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), advised men not to wait until they were wealthy before settling down. He emphasized the importance of building wealth together with a spouse, using his own experience of starting from humble beginnings as an example.

He used his experience of building wealth with his spouse from humble beginnings as an example.

In his response, DKB, an ICGC member, disagreed with the Pastor’s viewpoint, citing contemporary challenges.

He suggested that the financial landscape has changed significantly since Pastor Otabil’s time and highlighted that money issues are a significant factor in modern marital problems. DKB argued that the rising cost of living and the increasing financial independence of women have made it more challenging for men to meet the traditional expectations of financial readiness before marriage.

“I am just coming from jogging, and my Pastor, you know I am an ICGC member, and my Pastor, Dr Mensa Otabil, is angry about marriage.

Daddy, calm down. The world has changed. He said, “If you want to be rich before you marry, there’s something wrong with your head.” DKB said, addressing Pastor Otabil directly.

DKB further pointed out that financial issues are prevalent in divorce cases today.

“Daddy, if you go to divorce court, ninety per cent of the cases are money issues. Daddy, we are waiting to get money before we get married. Daddy, your time was better.

If you don’t take care this time, you go marry the devil,” he added.

DKB’s remarks reflect a broader conversation about the evolving expectations and realities surrounding marriage and financial stability today, a topic that is highly relevant to our lives and worth discussing.
