Construction of Burundi’s presidential palace kicks off

Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza Monday launched a project to build the country's presidential palace funded by China at Gasenyi hill, northeast of the Burundian capital Bujumbura.

“The palace built near Bujumbura-Bugarama road will notably host the office of the president, that of the first vice-president. It will also host the office of the second vice-president and a space for official events,” said a statement from the president’s office.

The palace also consists of a conference room, parking lots as well as other installations, it said.

Several Chinese companies, including Hunan Construction Engineering Group Corporation, the Beijing Institute of Architectural Design Co, Tianjin TEDA Construction and Engineering Supervision Company, are part of the project.

China and Burundi have been enjoying friendly bilateral relations for more than 50 years. Sectors of cooperation include energy, health, education and infrastructure. Enditem
