After a year-long hiatus, construction has recommenced on the 64km Ashaiman to Akosombo Junction Road.
The project, a crucial component of the Eastern Corridor Road upgrading (Lot 1), involves extensive infrastructure enhancements, including a dual carriageway from Ashaiman Roundabout to Akosombo Junction, a flyover at Ashaiman Roundabout, and an interchange at Asutsuare Junction.
Hon. Francis Asenso-Boakye, Minister for Roads and Highways, inspected the ongoing works during a visit en route to the Volta and Oti regions.
The minister observed that earthworks are underway between Asutsuare Junction and Akuse Junction to widen the road into a dual carriageway. Additional activities, such as site clearing from Doryumu Junction towards Asutsuare Junction, are also progressing.
Originally launched in May 2022 and projected to be completed in November 2024, the project faced delays starting in July 2023 due to the government’s debt exchange program.
The resumed construction is expected to expedite progress towards enhancing transportation infrastructure in the region, including constructing 11 pedestrian footbridges, three river bridges, and other ancillary works encompassing drainage structures and walkways.
