The Ashanti Regional Police Command has handsomely honoured personnel that excelled in the various departments during the year 2013.

The move formed part of the Command?s efforts to motivate police personnel to effectively combat crime and maintain law and order.

In all, 10 police personnel were awarded during the colorful West Africa Security Social Activity (WASSA), which was held at the Regional Police Headquarters in Kumasi last Friday.

The Bantamahene, Baffuor Asare Owusu Amankwatia chaired the event, which was attended by Eric Opoku, the Ashanti Regional Minister and his deputy, Samuel Yaw Adusei.

Inspector Alex Gyimah, Best Administrator, Inspector Francis Aubyn, Best Visibility Personnel and Sergeant Mary Akanpami were awarded.

The rest were Corporal Francis Bronyah, Best Administrative Clerk, Corporal Prince Mpere, Best Combater, Corporal Martha Agyeman, Best Motto Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) personnel and Corporal Karikari Boateng, Best RDF Personnel.

Corporal Enock Anyane, Best Radio Communication personnel, Constable Henry Ofoe Pediator, Best Swat Alpha Personnel also received awards.

Corporal Bright Acheampong was adjudged the Overall Best police personnel for the year 2013 and he was given a standing ovation by the crowd as he marched meticulously to receive his award.

The 10 winners were given certificates and mattresses donated by Latex Foam for their efforts which enhanced the work of the police in the region last year.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command also commended Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Alhaji Amponsah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Aloha Services Ltd and Mr. Ahmed, a gold dealer in Kumasi for supporting the work of the police.

Mr. Frank, a Lotto agent, Latex Foam, Unity Oil, Britak, Kaakyire Agro Chemicals, Bentronic Agro Chemicals, Regional Manager, Accra Brewery Ltd, Agya Ba, Als Mineral and Voltic Mineral Water were also commended.

The rest were Lacdan Steel Company, Atwima Kwanwoma Rural Bank, Obibini Blackman Distilleries, Zoomlion, Thonket Company Ltd and Pepsi Cola Bottling Company Ltd.

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye, commended the organizations for their invaluable contributions, urging members of the general public to always support the police to combat crime in the region.

The Bantamahene, Baffuor Asare Owusu Amankwatia also charged the police to improve their activities to reduce crime in the country.
