COVID-19: Three institutions receive protective, sanitary and food items

The 4 Garrison Officers’ Mess Keep Fit Club, in Kumasi, has donated personal protective and sanitary items, as well as food and medicines to three institutions, to fight COVID-19.

The items comprised; 15 boxes of hand gloves, 1,500 pieces of nose masks, 100 gallons of hand sanitizers and 30 Veronica buckets.

Others were 20 bundles of tissue papers, 10 boxes of parazone disinfectants, 20 gallons of liquid soap, 40 bags of rice, 100 crates of eggs, 400 bags of sachet water, 10 gallons of cooking oil and 42 boxes of Vitamin ‘C’ supplement.
The beneficiary institutions, were the Kumasi Central Prisons, Cherubs Children’s Home at Santasi-Apire and the Atwima-Kwanwoma District Assembly.

Mr Simon Osei-Mensah, Ashanti Regional Minister, who received the items on behalf of the beneficiary institutions at a ceremony at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in Kumasi, re-echoed the need for corporate and civil society organizations to be supportive of the fight against the pandemic.

He affirmed the RCC’s resolve to ensure the enforcement of the government’s health protocols instituted to mitigate the devastating effects of COVID-19, especially the mandatory wearing of nose masks and social distancing.

“It is compulsory for all and sundry to wear the nosemasks at public places. We must obey this instruction at all times for our own safety,” Mr Osei-Mensah told the Ghana News Agency (GNA)on the sideines of the event.

Dr. Emmanuel Tenkorang, Ashanti Regional Director of Health Services, asked the media to feature prominently on their programmes educational issues relating to the pandemic.

This, he said, was required to create awareness on the mode of transmission and protective measures to avoid contracting the disease.

Dr. Boris Baidoo, Spokesperson for the Keep Fit Club, advised the public to take keen interest in regular physical exercises and also take in balanced diets to help boost their immune system.
