The Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) has undertaken a clean-up exercise within the Metropolis in a dramatic outing that led to people nicknaming the Metropolitan Chief Executive as an anti-coronavirus warlord.

Felix Mensah Anang-La, leading the clean-up campaign, targeted almost every nook and cranny of the Metropolis with chemical solutions.

Among his lieutenants were personnel from the Tema Metropolitan Command of the Ghana Fire Service who blasted around the Metropolis with fire tenders to rid the place of any possible covid-19 germ.

The MCE also used this anti-coronavirus clean-up campaign to de-silt gutters and cleared the streets of garbage.
Amazed residents of Tema, who observed their Assembly at work could not help but praised the TMA for the fastidious efforts to ensure that Tema, which has recorded coronavirus infections, is rid of the deadly virus.

“From what I have observed, I strongly believe that our Assembly has sacked coronavirus from Tema forever!” an impressed Appenteng Kopple told journalists after the clean-up had completed.

According to him, the Assembly’s response was quite eye-opening. “In this country, we have mostly characterized our institutions of State and our politicians as incompetent and corrupt, but what I am seeing my Assembly do, and indeed, what I am seeing my government do in response to the coronavirus pandemic has opened my eyes; our institutions and governments are not as hopeless as we have dismissed them to be.”

Mr. Appeneteng said that he hoped that the seriousness being showed by the Assembly would not be a nine-day wonder. “I hope, even after this pandemic has been defeated, we will continue to see more of such resourcefulness from our Assemblies.”

What has impressed many more is that this clean-up by the TMA, is coming just weeks after Government sprayed the markets in Tema, together with those in Accra to sanitize them from possible coronavirus contamination.

In that earlier fumigation, market centres, including the popular Community One business area had been sprayed with chlorine solution, a chemical preparation prescribed by the World Health Organization.

Felix Nii Mensah Anang-La, the MCE for Tema, has vowed to defeat the coronavirus and rid his Metropolis of the deadly virus which has ravaged lives around the world.

Coordinator for the Tema Metropolitan market on the lockdown, Mr. Akwasi Agyeman explained that the Tema clean-up campaign aimed at the gutters the most because the gutters were traditionally active cesspools.

He commended the Assembly for its cooperation and also vowed that he and the authorities would leave no stone unturned to ensure that covid-19 was sacked from the Metropolis.

Mr. Raphael Ahadzi, a fire officer who led a team of fire personnel said “I am happy with the excellent co-operation of the MCE and staff of the assembly”.
