Wilmar Africa Ltd has presented cash and products totalling GHC1 million to support the government’s efforts in the fight of the COVID-19 and alleviate the plight of the less-privileged.

The donation comprised a cheque for GHC100,000 to the COVID-19 Fund and GHs900,000 worth of the company’s Viking Rice, Frytol Vegetable Oil, Frytol seasoning, Largo, Jamaa and Alife soaps to support the vulnerable in society who are the most hit by the stay home directive.

The donation was made to the Ministry of Information and received by the sector Minister, Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.

Mr Kwame Wiafe, the General Manager of Wilmar Africa, who led the company’s team to make the presentation, said: “Wilmar Africa appreciates the effort and plans the Government continues to put in place to curb the spread of the COVID-19 in Ghana.

“As a socially responsible company, we are delighted to be partners in assisting the vulnerable, especially during this lockdown period”.

Mr Oppong Nkrumah and the Senior Minister, Mr Yaw Osafo Marfo, commended the team for the kind gesture and reaffirmed Government’s commitment to the fight against the pandemic.

He said the products would go a long way to alleviate the plight of the underprivileged in society.

Wilmar Africa Ltd, which is the manufacturing arm in Ghana, is one of the largest manufacturing business entities, which produces Frytol Cooking Oil and importers of Fortune Rice brands among other things.

Wilmar directly employs more than 3,000 staff in Ghana and is one of the largest taxpayers with annual tax contribution of over Ghc200 million.

The company continues to sensitise the public using various media platforms on making personal hygiene a habit and the need to stay safe during this COVID-19 pandemic.
