The 2 km mini marathon involved Mozambicans and other people from other CPLP member states, such as Angola, Guinea Bissau, Sao Tome and Principe, Cape Verde, Portugal, Brazil and East Timor.
Mozambican Agriculture Minister, Jose Pacheco, told reporters that the event is enshrined in the implementation of the CPLP strategy in the food sector. Pacheco said that the aim of the campaign is to collect financial resources for the development of the projects.
The target of this campaign is children up to five years, according to the minister.
“Mozambique’s main enemy is hunger. We want together to join force to fight against famine and win this big existing enemy in Mozambique,” said Pacheco.
Many Mozambican parents have no resources to diversify food for their kids, so that they can get recommended diets for their growth.
“Let us use our local foods in an adequate and quantitative as well. If well used, we will achieve what the health ministry recommends,”said the Mozambican Health Minister, Nazira Abdula.
Runners, Ilidio Machava,in male, and Naira Zonguene, in female, are the winners of the event against famine. Mozambique is facing severe hunger and food insecurity. More than 2.4 million people are at risk of facing these problems this year and next, according to Pacheco. Enditem
