Dave admits to Closer that making a comeback after his eight-year break wasn’t easy. “It was hard, because the gates had swung closed. I thought, everybody else might think I’m done, but I don’t think so. It was a long, tough process.”
“I hit the road and worked really hard,” he continues. “So when Bob Saget, John Stamos and I did our Super Bowl commercial and Fuller House ramped up, my stand-up act was funny again and the offers started rolling in.”
Dave tells Closer that wasn’t the only time he struggled with his acting career. “I was cast on SNL. So I got rid of my LA apartment, and a week before I was set to leave, NBC’s president said he thought Dana Carvey and I were too similar, and they were going with Dana.”
“It felt like a kick in the teeth,” he says of the setback. “But I kept pressing on, and I got a script for a little pilot called Full House.”
Now filming the second season of the Netflix reboot Fuller House, Dave says he doesn’t regret following his dreams. “Everyone in my family worked for Chrysler, Ford or GM. What terrified me most was becoming an old man and never trying to go after my dreams,” Dave tells Closer about what drove him to succeed.
“It’s incredible to do something you love so much with people you care about.”
