ACCRA — The candidate of the largest opposition New Patriotic Party Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has won Ghana’s closely contested presidential elections, official results released here Friday by the electoral commission showed.
Akufo-Addo garnered 5,716,026 votes, or 53.85 percent of the total valid votes cast, while his closest challenger, who is also the incumbent president John Dramani Mahama of the governing National Democratic Congress obtained 4,713,277 votes, or 44.40 percent. (Ghana-Presidential Election)

ABUJA — Thirty people were killed and 67 injured in the suicide blasts which rocked a crowded market in Madagali district of Nigeria’s northeastern state of Adamawa on Friday.
Badare Akintoye, a military spokesman confirmed two female suicide bombers carried out the attacks.
The explosions occurred simultaneously at the opposite ends of the local market in Madagali, causing buyers and sellers to run for safety.(Nigeria-Suicide Attack)

HAMBURG — The 23rd ministerial meeting of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) closed Friday with some consensuses being reached among its member states.
Despite marked differences, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said ministers attending the meeting agreed that all sides of unresolved regional conflicts in the OSCE area should contribute to conflict de-escalation and peaceful settlement, and expressed support for the full implementation of the Minsk agreements.(Germany-OSCE)

THE HAGUE — The Dutch police have arrested a 30-year-old man suspected of preparing a terrorist crime in Rotterdam, the Dutch public prosecutor announced on Friday.

CAIRO — An Egyptian civilian was killed and three policemen were injured Friday in an explosion that targeted a police car in the Delta governorate of Kafr al-Sheikh, state-run MENA news agency reported.
