Defence Network for Democracy (DEFNED) has critically observed with keen interest the illegal and unauthorized means of take-over of state facilities and assets by some suspected members of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) across the Country which has the potential to trigger reprisal attacks thereby leading to total chaos and insecurity in the Country.
DEFNED hereby condemn in no uncertain terms the illegal and unauthorized means of take-over and seizure of State facilities and assets by some suspected members of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) across the Country ,this is because ,Ghana our motherland is governed by the principles of Rule of Law and not lawlessness and anarchy , hence , an immediate stop to this illegal acts by the suspected members of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) .
DEFNED is seriously calling on the new Government of the Republic of Ghana under the leadership of H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo , to as a matter of urgency direct the Ghana Police Service to immediately arrest those elements perpetrating this illegal and unauthorized seizure of State Installations and facilities. The President of the Republic of Ghana who is also the Commander –in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces under Article 57(1) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana , has the prime responsibility to ensure the enforcement of the Laws of Ghana by empowering the Security Agencies to discharge their constitutional obligation in the interest of national peace and stability without fear or favour to secure the sustainability of Ghana’s Democracy.
In the light of the above, DEFNED is further reminding the President of the Republic of Ghana H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo of his official oath to the Country to at all times preserve ,protect and defend the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana during his inauguration as President of this Country on the 7th day of January ,2017. This is because ,Ghana’s Democracy is under serious threat if the National Peace and Stability of this Country is compromised and not safeguarded after the smooth and peaceful transition .
