“Simplicity is the nature of great souls”-Papa Ramadas
Anambra state has always been looked upon as the Leader in Igbo politics and generally as always being at the forefront of the emancipation&Liberation of Ndigbo, A little glance into the list of men that has transversed the political landscape of the State reads like who is who in Nigeria’s politics and history..Great men like Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, Dr Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme, Chief Jerome Udoji, Chief Odimegwu Ojukwu, Dr Chuba Okadigbo and the global icon Chinue Achebe..etc..had one time or the other contributed immensely to the growth of Ndigbo Politically and otherwise..So it’s understandable whenever Ndigbo look up to Anambra State as their Hope for a better Ndigbo in this complex entity called Nigeria.
But in so doing Ndigbo has done more harm than good to Anambra state and had almost ruined the State with support from external forces but for the Smart approach and Humility of the former Governor Mr Peter Obi, As DL Moody said “A man can counterfeit Love, he can counterfeit faith, he can counterfeit hope and all the other graces, But it is very difficult to counterfeit humility” if not for Mr Obi I wonder what Anambra state would have been by now..Most of us has forgotten this quote from Chinue Achebe “I have watched particularly the chaos in my own state of Anambra where a small clique of renegades, openly boasting its connections in high places, seems determined to turn my homeland into a bankrupt and lawless fiefdom.
I am appalled by the brazenness of this clique and the silence, if not connivance, of the Presidency,” Achebe had said in turning down the Award from Federal Government in 2004..Needless to say Achebe has died and was given a hero’s burial by the man that brought sanity and orderliness back to his State..Today every other State in the South East with exception of only Ebonyi State is far more developed than Anambra State because every onye-Igbo sees Anambra as his stomping ground be it MASSOB, BAKASSI BOYS,KIDNAPPERS,CRIMINALS, TOUTS etc..they leave their respective states only to perpetuate crimes in Anambra State and then turn round and blame the State whenever the long arms of the law catches up with them, you will hear things like”Anambra is the problem of Ndigbo” Anambra people are sabourters” Because they did not allow MASSOB to take over their State and turn it to another BORNO.
These days the entire social Media has been buzzing as a result of Peter Obi’s defection to the ruling party PDP from APGA I have read so many junk and pepper soup joint articles from different sources all insulting and abusing Peter Obi for having the guts to leave APGA to PDP, and all I do is laugh at their ignorance though some of them are sponsored articles in other to arouse backlash from Ndigbo against the person of Peter Obi. Here I make bold to say that this is the wisest and the smartest decision ever made by an Igbo politician of our era who sees the future and the need to position Ndigbo for the battle of 2019 not 2015..Ndigbo should understand that 2019 is going to be North vs East..
Peter Obi the sixth executive Governor of Anambra State transformed the State from a pariah,Bankrupt and lawless Fiefdom to a full functional state with every arm of the Government working effectively and from bankruptcy to abundance leaving cash and investment worth 75billion naira without debt, a far cry from the Mbadinuju and Ngige’s era when God fathers and their touts rule with impunity, Obi was a breath of fresh air to the long suffering Ndi-Anambra, he brought unprecedented development to the entire igboland not just Anambra State through his closeness to the President…Enugu International Airport, Second Niger Bridge, Aviation College Ogbaru, Anambra Industrial hub..etc..to mention just a few development Obi has contributed in One way or the other to Ndigbo, no Igbo politician of this era has the interest of Ndigbo at heart more than Obi, Ndigbo must understand that for us to win and play from the central we must present our first eleven..
we must not leave leadership in the hands of the Old politicians who has short changed and stripped us of our rights, who has contributed nothing meaningful to the ordinary Onye-Igbo on the street. Since PDP is not going anywhere soon there is need for Ndigbo to present her best..People like Mrs Okonjo Iweala, Senator Ken Nnamani, Mr Peter Obi, Senator Pius Anyim, Princess Stella Oduah, Senator Uche Chukwumerije, Senator Ike Ekwerenmadu, Hon Ihedioha, Barth Nnaji..etc..men that can make any star studded team any time and anywhere instead of playing APGA politics with it’s never ending crisis, I dare say anybody that says ill concerning Obi’s role as Relates Ojukwu is being economical with the truth even the family of Ojukwu could’t have achieved such a heroic burial for their Father and Eze Ndigbo if not for the efforts and humility of Mr Peter Obi.
There was nothing left to achieve in Anambra State, he would have taken an honorable path as so many Governors are doing to the Senate but he choose to offer himself to a higher calling of positioning Ndigbo for the battles of tomorrow which incidentally APGA cannot offer, Obi did the honorable thing, he handed over to an APGA Government in the State left the party without anybody and quietly..Have we asked ourselves what will happen to APGA after Goodluck? Obsanjo almost killed the party the way he killed AD if not for the Doggedness of Peter Obi, So after Goodluck what next? APGA has never won elections in Enugu State, Abia State, Ebonyi State, are this places not Igboland? So why this hypocrisy against Obi? My beloved Ndigbo let us look at the bigger picture and plan when others are planning, Obi is a material for the presidential or vice presidential office of this country..are’nt we happy that the SouthEast PDP is taking a new shape with the crop of new and dynamic leaders forming the nucleus of the party in the SouthEast unlike what we have in the past..Ndigbo let us position ourselves for the battle of 2019 and not be spectators..
