2nd Deputy Minority Whip Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe has criticized Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia for focusing on securing a debate with former President John Dramani Mahama instead of addressing his record in office.
In remarks made to the media on July 24, 2024, Cudjoe challenged Bawumia to take responsibility for his unfulfilled promises to Ghanaians.
Cudjoe’s comments responded to Bawumia’s recent attempts to prompt a debate with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, Mahama. She argued that Bawumia should instead present a detailed account of his achievements and failures as Vice President.
“If you have completed your term as Vice President, address the people of Ghana about the promises you made,” Cudjoe said. “If you have delivered on those promises, congratulations. If not, then we have every right to criticize.”
She also suggested that Bawumia’s focus on a debate is a sign of him having “checked out” from his role, implying he is no longer effectively engaged in his duties. “Even when people have checked out, they sometimes cause disturbances,” Cudjoe said. “If you’ve checked out, step aside gracefully and let Mahama continue his work.”
Cudjoe specifically criticized Bawumia for failing to deliver on promises made to the northern regions, such as infrastructure projects. “When you promised a dam in the north, did Mahama ask you to? You claimed it would bring benefits that we are yet to see,” she said, highlighting perceived shortcomings in Bawumia’s record.
