Despite Insecurity fears, voting sees record-high turnout across Borno, Yobe


Braving security threats, voters in Borno, swamped voting locations across the state on Saturday morning, locking in almost 2.2 million votes and showing their strong desire to be counted in the race to choose the next president and national assembly representatives.

This kind of early turnout was previously unheard of during elections, especially after early morning explosions rocked the state and Yobe hours to the opening of polling units for the general elections.

” Early morning was hell for us in Maiduguri. Voter streaming unfazed by the uptick by the explosions, said [email protected] on his twitter page.

Early voting turnout is breaking records and vastly exceeding expectations in several closely-watched states, like Borno and Yobe with voters defying insecurity and heavy Military presence.

Election observers suggested that the high turnout is a result of new levels of enthusiasm for—and against—candidates.
