Diaky Admits is tough replacing Asamoah Gyan

Emenike has been criticized despite scoring five goals in seven matches

Al Ain veteran Ibrahim Diaky has called for patience for the club’s Nigerian striker Emmanuel Emenike, insisting replacing their legendary Ghanaian attacker Asamoah Gyan is a hard task.

Emenike was signed to replace the Ghana attacker after the latter moved to Chinese giants Shanghai SIPG in a bumper transfer deal in the summer.

But the Nigerian striker has been unable to replicate the form of Gyan which has led to recent heavy criticism from fans of Al Ain.

Emenike looks to have regained the support of the fans over the weekend when they hammered their bitter rivals Al Ahli 3-0 in a league match he started only because of an injury to UAE international Saeed Al Kathiri.

The Nigerian’s cool one-on-one finish made it his fifth goal in seven game in the top-flight since his loan move from Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

Diaky urged patience for the player brought in to replace club legend Asamoah Gyan.

He said: “He has had his difficult moments, but now it is coming slowly, slowly.

“The pressure at Al Ain is not easy, especially when you come after a striker like Asamoah Gyan – he left a big name behind.

“Emenike is a great striker. I have told him to keep working and it will come for him.”
