From: Bamidele Fashube, ABUJA, Nigeria (GVE) – Distressed Senator Representing Kogi West Federal Constituency, Dino Melaye, has been remanded in Police custody and will be there for a minimum of 37 days.
The Chief Magistrate, Suleiman Abdullahi made the pronouncement Thursday at the Senior Magistrate Court, Lokoja in Kogi State, after denying the accused lawmaker of bail application.
It will be recalled that the lawmaker repteadly attempted to avoid police arrests, accused of damaging government properties and alleged criminal conspiracy.
The prosecuting counsel, Alex Isihon, said the court lacked jurisdiction over the case while counsel to the defendant, Mike Ozekhome, insisted on contrary.
He said the court has the mandate as strenghtened by the nation’s constitution to try the case.
However, after the proceeding the presiding Magistrate denied Melaye’s bail application and ruled that the accused Senator should remain in police custody for 37 days.
