Djibouti president holds talks with diplomats from IGAD region

Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh on Wednesday held talks with directors of diplomatic institutions of member states of the Inter-Governmental Authority for Development (IGAD), an official source has said.

A statement released after the meeting said the two parties discussed several subjects among them regional economic integration which constitutes a challenge that must be overcome by IGAD member states.

Guelleh and his guests highlighted the need for IGAD countries to intensify efforts aimed at promoting economic integration to achieve the desired results.

“They equally discussed the need to come up with a common strategy on preventing risks linked to climate change,” the statement said.

The objective sought through this strategy is to ease the impact of climatic changes whose effects include increased desertification and recurrent droughts.

IGAD is an eight-country trade bloc in Eastern Africa, with headquarters in Djibouti. Its member states include Djibouti, Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya and Uganda. Enditem
