Sharmarke was accompanied by a strong delegation comprised of members of his government including Foreign Minister Abdisalam Hadliyeh, Transport Minister Ali Jama and Defense Minister Mohamed Ali Haga.
An official source said the meeting between the two leaders touched on the ways and means of consolidating existing cooperation relations between the two countries.
Speaking after the meeting, Somalia’s PM hailed the efforts made by the Djibouti government for stabilization and reconstruction of Somalia.
“Djibouti has always been on our side even during difficult times. And we appreciate that. Today the situation in Somalia is very encouraging, the country’s reconstruction process is on course,” he said, adding that “the country was now under the control of the government and Al Shabaab terrorists had been chased away from almost all parts of the national territory.”
Since 2011, Djibouti has been taking part in the African Union Peacekeeping Mission in Somalia with a contingent of 1,000 soldiers based in Somalia’s central town of Beledweyne. Djibouti recently deployed additional 900 soldiers to this strategic town that had been a stronghold of the Al-Shabaab terrorists for a long time. Enditem
