Documentary series on South Africans living in China out now

“South Africans in China”, a 12-part documentary, was released in Beijing on Wednesday, to celebrate 2015 the Year of China in South Africa and to enhance friendship and understanding between the two peoples. south africa flag
The documentary focuses on the life of 12 South Africans living in China, who are hotel founders, DJ, video blogger and a teacher, among others.
It showcases the close relationship between the people of the two countries.
South African Ambassador Dolana Msimang said the documentary took the experience of South Africans in China to a broader audience, thereby stimulating interest in the respective countries and cultures.
The documentary will be broadcast on the Beijing documentary channel and ETV, the largest commercial TV station in South Africa as well as streaming sites like Youtube and Youku.
More projects like “South Africans in China” are needed to consolidate and expand interaction and understanding among Chinese and South Africans, said Liu Guijin, former Chinese ambassador to South Africa.
Mark O’Connell, one of the 12 people featured in the documentary, moved to China five years ago and is now a general manager of a golf club in Shenzhen, south China.
He said dealing with Chinese customers and employees helps him to better understand China and its people.
