“The Royal Storm” Isaac Dogboe was victorious in a hard fought WBC featherweight Title eliminator against hard hitting and relentless Two-time World Title Challenger, Joet Gonzalez; whose two other losses came at the hands of Shakur Stevenson and Emmanuel Navarette.
In what was an enthralling barn burner, Dogboe started of brilliantly, putting the first three rounds in the bank, before Gonzalez rallied in the middle rounds; launching an unabated onslaught on the Anyako native.
Gonzalez marched forward, forcing his opponent to fight on the back foot and repeatedly landing head and body shots, even stunning Dogboe in Round Four.
Isaac remained resolute and unfazed; dishing out his own dose in retaliation.
Trainer Barry Hunter’s pep talk before the start of the final round worked magic on Dogboe as he was spurred on to win the round and finish strong.
Two judges scored the bout 96-94 for Dogboe with one judge having it 96- 94 in favor of Gonzalez .
The win implies Dogboe is inching closer to a World Title and might come up against WBC Featherweight Champion Rey Vargas next.
On the Top Rank card which took place in Minnesota, the former world champion from Ghana showed improvement in his game having joined Barry Hunter’s Head Bangers stable for his three previous fights.
He however seems to be bereft of that ferocious power he possessed at 122 lbs.
But as it stands now Dogboe is at the cusp of another championship berth.
