Former Auditor-General Daniel Yao Domelevo has lauded Organised Labour for staunch opposition to the proposed sale of 60% shares in four hotels by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).

In an interview on The Point of View on Channel One TV, Domelevo admired Organised Labour’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding public interests.

“I’ve been closely following these developments. I commend Organised Labour for standing firm against what I believe is not in the public’s best interest. When actions affect me as a stakeholder, I believe consultation is essential to protect my interests,” he remarked to host Bernard Avle.

Domelevo highlighted the critical role played by North Tongu Member of Parliament Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa in exposing the government’s intentions, asserting that Organised Labour prevented its members from being shortchanged.

He questioned the government’s rationale behind selling state assets to a cabinet minister, describing it as “unusual”.

“If not for Ablakwa’s revelations, these transactions might have been completed quietly. It’s concerning that a government would transfer state property to one of its members,” Domelevo added. “We need institutions like Organised Labour to continue holding public officials accountable.”

Regarding the delayed investigation report by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) on Ablakwa’s petition, Domelevo criticised enforcement agencies for their perceived indifference to public concerns.

“It’s not impatience from the public; it’s the insensitivity of enforcement agencies. Justice delayed is justice denied, whether in courts or at CHRAJ,” he emphasised. “National issues brought before investigative bodies should be handled promptly for accountability.”

Domelevo’s remarks underscore a call for transparency and accountability in governance, urging robust oversight from civil society and enforcement agencies.
