DR Congo army, UN forces destroy FRPI militia’s camp

Airstrikes by the DR Congo army supported by the UN Mission for Stabilization of Congo (MONUSCO) peacekeepers, have destroyed a camp of the Ituri Patriotic Resistance Front (FRPI) militia group in Ituri province, east of the country, a security source said Wednesday.

The commander of DR Congo’s 32nd military region General Jean-Pierre Bongwangela said DR Congo forces and UN peacekeepers had launched an attack for over a week on FRPI positions in Ituri province.

MONUSCO’s military spokesman Lieutenant-colonel Amouzoun Codjo said MONUSCO will continue collaborating with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) army in its efforts to dismantle FRPI camps, in order to neutralize the armed group’s positions and end its activities.

So far, there has been no communication, neither by the Congolese army nor by MONUSCO, regarding the death toll from the fighting with the militia. Enditem
