“It is up to the government and the different partners to mobilize necessary means to enable CENI respect the fixed electoral timetable and also to ensure the electoral process is accomplished peacefully,” Senate Speaker Leon Kengo wa Dondo said Monday during the opening of the senate’s ordinary session.
CENI has published a complete electoral timetable that will require over a billion U.S. dollars. The U.S. has already promised to provide 20 million dollars, while the European Union has promised to contribute by funding the legislative and presidential elections.
Several opposition parties have termed the timetable released by CENI as unrealistic, calling instead for a more consensual timetable.
