According to one of his lawyers, Barthelemy Mumba Gama, Katumbi returned to his home in the evening after being questioned for hours at the prosecutor’s office near Lubumbashi Court of Appeal, in ex-Katanga province.
Katumbi’s wife, Carine Katumbi, said in a message posted on her twitter account that “her husband’s questioning will resume on Wednesday, May 11, 2016.”
Hundreds of Katumbi’s supporters as well as opposition leaders accompanied Katumbi as he walked to the prosecutor’s office on monday.
On May 4, DR Congo’s Justice Minister Alexis Thambwe Mwamba asked the public prosecutor to launch investigations against Katumbi on suspicion of recruitment of mercenaries in Lubumbashi.
However, Katumbi who previously served as the governor of Katanga, termed the allegations as “lies” by the Congolese government.
The accusations against Katumbi were made just after he announced his candidature for the presidential elections expected to be held in November this year. Enditem
