Driver in court for causing harm

Raphael Boham, a driver who injured seven passengers on the Tarkwa-Bogoso Highway has been sentenced to a fine of 720 Ghana cedis by the Tarkwa District Court.

The driver pleaded guilty to careless and inconsiderate driving and negligently causing harm.

Mr Charles Owusu Nsiah, the trial judge, ordered Boham to pay the medical bills of the victims.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector George Kwabena Osei, told the court that on Tuesday January 14 this year, around 1400 hours, Boham was driving a Hyundai Grace Bus with registration number GE 4175-13 from Prestea towards Tarkwa with eleven passengers on board.

He said on reaching Huni-Ano, the convict lost control of his vehicle and crashed into an on-coming Toyota Hilux Pick-Up with registration number GT 9360-14, which was being driven by one Abdulai Kofi which resulted in injuries to the seven passengers.

The Prosecution said both vehicles were badly damaged and the victims comprising of six females and an eleven month old baby-boy were rushed to the Apinto Govermnet and Tarkwa Municipal hospitals for treatment.

He said Boham was arrested and detained in police custody, but was later released on bail to seek medical attention as he complained of chest pains and after investigations he was arraigned.
