The awards season continues on DStv this month! After the live screening of the this year?s edition of the Golden Globe Awards and Grammy Awards, DStv subscribers can look out for more prestigious awards this month. On 16 February 2014, the 67th British Academy Film Awards (generally known as the BAFTAs) will be held in the Royal Opera House in London.
Presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), accolades will be handed out to the best in feature-length film and documentaries of any nationality, that were screened at British cinemas during 2013.
Nominees were announced 8 January 2014 by Luke Evans and Helen McCrory. The British-American film Gravity received the most nominations with eleven, and its director Alfonso Cuar?n received the most nominations with five: Best Film, Best British Film, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Editing.
Also on 2 March 2014, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) will present the 86th Academy Awards ceremony to honor the best films of 2013 at a special event to take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
During the ceremony, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present Academy Awards of Merit (commonly referred to as Oscars) in 24 categories to deserving individuals behind the best films.
There will also be tributes to film critic Roger Ebert and Academy Award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman according to producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan, and director Hamish Hamilton.
This year?s edition of the awards will be hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, who previously served as the host of the 79th ceremony in 2007.
The nominees for the 86th Academy Awards were announced on January 16, 2014, at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, California, by Cheryl Boone Isaacs, president of the Academy. Actor Chris Hemsworth, American Hustle and Gravity tied for the most nominations with ten nominations each.
