The Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG) would on July 31st, this year launch her 175th anniversary celebration at the Accra International Conference Centre.
The theme for the celebration is “A Journey of 175 Years in Ministry: Achievements, Challenges and the Way Forward.”
This was contained in a letter signed by Rev Dr Lawson Kwaku Dzanku, Clerk of the General Assembly of the Church dated 29th June 2022 to all Pastors of the Church and sighted by the Ghana News Agency.
According to Rev Dr Dzanku, the launch would be performed by Rt. Rev. Dr. Lt. Col. (rtd) Bliss Divine Agbeko, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church.
It said the Guest of Honour is expected to be Mr. Alan Kyerematen, Minister for Trade and Industries.
The letter directed all Congregations of the Church to also mark the occasion on the said date.
It said the official attire for the launch would be the EPCG National cloth.
The letter continued that all transactions relating to the anniversary should be rooted through the account number 5011130012713, Ghana Commercial Bank, Ho.
Rev. Dzanku said the EPCG was a product of the missionary effort of the North German Missionary Society (Bremen Mission).
He said that the Church was started on November 14, 1847, at Peki in the Volta region with the arrival of Rev. Lorenz Wolf.
The Clerk said that it was because of Togbe Kwadzo Dei Tutu, King of Krepi’s (Peki) invitation through his son Rev. Lorenz Wolf, who arrived at Peki on 14th November 1847 that marked the birth of the Church.
From its humble beginnings, the Church grew and spread to all parts of Ghana and beyond.
Rev Dzanku said the Church now has 15 presbyteries, headed by Synod Moderators, 211 Pastoral Districts and 915 congregations.
He said the Church also has branches in the USA, Europe and some sister African countries and has a total membership of over 155,000 people.
Rev Dzanku noted that the Church had established a few Basic and Second Cycle schools, colleges of education, a university, and a seminary to train its agents.
