The Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) on Wednesday announced that it has deployed an observation mission to Kenya’s fresh presidential elections scheduled for Thursday.

In a statement, IGAD urges all parties and leaders to maintain a fidelity to the law and the constitution of Kenya in their conduct toward the upcoming election and its aftermath.

“Kenya is an important cornerstone of the region’s peace, security and stability as well as being a leading economic powerhouse,” IGAD Peace & Security Division Director Tewolde Gebremeskel, who heads the observer mission, said earlier.

IGAD is counting on the leaders and the people of Kenya to maintain their democratic gains, he said. Enditem
