During the Regional TownHall meeting in Koforidua on September 3, 2024, Eastern Regional Minister Seth Kwame Acheampong asserted that the current government under President Nana Akufo-Addo has outpaced the previous administration in road construction within the Eastern Region.

Acheampong reported that since 2017, the Akufo-Addo administration has completed over 185 kilometres of road projects in the region. He argued that this figure exceeds the total road development undertaken during the tenure of former President John Dramani Mahama.

“The Akufo-Addo government has delivered on its promise of infrastructural development,” Acheampong declared. “We have made significant strides in road construction, which has improved transportation and economic activities by connecting previously isolated communities.”

The minister highlighted several vital projects, including rehabilitating the Nkawkaw-Noyem-New Abirem roads, reconstructing the Koforidua-Asesewa-Abourso roads, and partially reconstructing the Koforidua-Bonsu road.

He emphasized that these initiatives have reduced travel times and facilitated regional trade and commerce.

Acheampong outlined the government’s vision for infrastructure, noting that the focus extends beyond road construction to creating an interconnected network supporting regional economic growth.

He assured me that the progress made so far is just the beginning, and he commits to further development in the coming years.

Minister of Information Fatimatu Abubakar underscored the importance of town hall meetings in fostering government accountability and transparency.

“These meetings are crucial for bringing governance closer to the people,” she said.

“They offer a platform for direct engagement between citizens and government officials, allowing real-time government projects and policy updates.”

Abubakar highlighted the meetings’ role in bridging the gap between the government and citizens, enhancing trust, and ensuring that people are well-informed about regional and national initiatives.

The Koforidua event at the Centre for National Culture is part of a nationwide series designed to enhance citizen engagement and promote inclusive governance.

Following the successful launch in the Greater Accra Region, the series will continue across all regions, aiming to ensure every Ghanaian has a voice in the nation’s development process.
