The Electoral Commission (EC) has rescinded its order that?restrained candidates of district level and unit committee elections from mounting platforms to campaign.

However, the EC has announced February 18 as the day it will offer special opportunity ?to each candidate in the upcoming elections to mount platforms to introduce themselves to their electorates.

According to EC?s Director of Public Affairs, Christian Owusu Parry, the platform mounting will be organized by the Electoral Commission to introduce candidates to electorates so that electorates will have the opportunity to listen to candidates.

He also averred that there is a program in place where candidates will visit churches, meeting identifiable groups, printing fliers and running radio and television ads, to whip up enthusiasm.

The ?EC is hopeful of high turnout for the elections though there have been calls for the day to be declared a national holiday to get more people participate in the local governance process.

The local government elections are scheduled to be held on Tuesday, March 3.
