The Electoral Commission will engage political parties at an Inter Party Advisory Committee meeting today over calls for the compilation of a new voters register.

The Electoral Commission tasked the various political parties to submit proposals for a new voters register, the deadline being September 22.

The NPP and the PPP are spearheading the campaign for a new register which they say will ensure credible elections.

The NPP believes that the current register is bloated citing instances of registering some over 76,000 Togolese nationals on the Ghanaian register.

However the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) thinks otherwise insisting that there?s no need for the current register to be replaced.

Civil Society groups such as the Let My Vote Count Alliance, Movement for Change and the Alliance for Accountable Governance have all backed calls for the compilation of a new voters register and has embarked on a demonstration in that regard.
