ECG forms new 9-member board

The Energy Minister has charged the newly formed board members of the Electricity Company of Ghana, (ECG) to flash out officials implicated in the recent corruption exposé at the company by journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Energy Minister, Dr. Joe Oteng Adjei, made the comment when the 9-member board headed by Mrs. Perpetual Darfuor was inaugurated on Friday.

The ECG has over the years been fraught with issues of corruption and mismanagement but the Minister expressed hope that the new board could turn the situation around.

“It is very shameful and we all need to apologise for the way we have treated our customers so far. The management was there and what they did was to watch the tape and identify those on it, after which they were called to let them confirm. The management also walked them through their terms of service and take the necessary measures.”

Dr. Oteng Adjei told the new governing board that “may your integrity protect you even as you take over ECG at this time.”

“The challenges are enormous and you cannot fail. The only way you will not fail is if you are in tune to your own personal values and integrity. If you allow money to drive you, I can assure you, the president will take another decision.”

The Energy Minister assured ECG of the ministry’s continued support.—
