ECG using digital projects to enhance service – MD

Mr Kwame Agyeman-Budu, Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has explained that the Company was using four major modernization projects to enhance its services to customers.

Mr Agyeman-Budu who disclosed this at the opening of a new ECG District Office at Juapong under its Tema Region said the use of the modernization tools as per the government’s digital agenda.

He noted that the four projects were the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Meter Management System (MMS), Geographic Information System (GIS) and Outage Management System.

The MD said the Enterprise Resource Planning was a system designed to enhance ECG’s business processes and drive efficiency in its operations to enable them serve the customer even better.

The Metre Management System, he revealed, which was recently launched, was specifically designed to aggregate the various metering systems onto a single platform for easy monitoring and management.

The ECG MD added that the third modernization technology, the Geographic Information System was a world-class tool for managing the assets of infrastructure companies and utility services providers, which has benefits of helping in system planning and asset management.

Mr Agyeman-Budu indicated that the Outage Management System, on its part, would be used by the ECG to quickly locate faults in the network and rectify them speedily to further enhance supply availability and reliability.

He said these digital projects were some of the efforts ECG was making to serve the people of Ghana with electricity services to support industries, businesses, communities, hospitals, schools, households and so on.

He said customers must corporate with the ECG to enable them to provide the needed service to them, adding that “I must state that, by the nature of the electricity distribution business everywhere in the world, electrical faults and billing anomalies do occur from time to time.

“That is why ECG has Faults gangs who work around the clock, day and night, 24/7 to ensure that lights are on and faults are rectified as and when they occur.”
