ECOWAS To Participate In The 13th Edition Of MASA d’Abidjan

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) will be participating in the 13th Edition of the Marché des Arts du Spectacle d’Abidjan (MASA) 2024 (Market for Abidjan Performing Arts) which will take from April 13th to April 20th, 2024.

The Abidjan Performing Arts Market (MASA) is a cultural and artistic event in the heart of West Africa, held biennially in Côte d’Ivoire. MASA brings together a wide range of artists, professionals, and cultural enthusiasts from across the Region and beyond. Since its inception, MASA has served as a platform to showcase the artistic talents inherent in West Africa, while fostering intercultural dialogue, promoting regional integration, and fostering the growth of the performing arts sector.

At this 13th Edition of MASA, ECOWAS will be giving two prizes to young artists in the slam (USD 2000) and comedy (USD 3000) categories, the winners are selected by a jury. These prizes will contribute to the promotion of these arts and encourage young talents.

Also, ECOWAS will participate in professional meetings to share its vision and make its cultural policy known. In addition, it will have an Exhibition for the West African Festival of Arts and Culture (ECOFEST), which ECOWAS and UEMOA will be co-organizing in September 2024 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The ECOFEST will promote integration, social cohesion, peace, and socio-economic and cultural development in the West African Region.

ECOWAS provides financial support and plays a crucial role in the overall organization of the Abidjan Performing Arts Market (MASA). This shows the Community’s commitment to using arts and culture in the promotion of peace and regional integration, it accompanies each year several cultural events of a regional nature such as the Pan-African Festival of Arts and Culture (FESPACO), the Dakar Biennial of Contemporary Art, the Abuja International Film Festival, etc.
