Education Minister Yaw Osei Adutwum underscored the critical role of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education in safeguarding future job opportunities during Saturday’s 60th anniversary celebrations of Kumasi High School.
Referring to projections from the World Economic Forum predicting significant job impacts from automation, Minister Adutwum emphasized the importance of a robust educational framework to mitigate these challenges.
He praised the Akufo-Addo administration’s substantial investments in STEM education, which aim to prepare students for the evolving demands of the job market.
“Investments in STEM education are crucial as jobs evolve. We must ensure our workforce is equipped to adapt and thrive,” Minister Adutwum stated.
“The government’s commitment to expanding STEM-related courses in universities is vital to meet high demand in critical sectors.”
Highlighting advancements in public schools under the administration’s initiatives, Minister Adutwum urged Ghanaians to acknowledge these achievements as they approach the December 7 elections.
“Our progress in education is tangible proof of our commitment to shaping a brighter future for Ghana,” he affirmed. “As voters reflect on our achievements, they can decide on the path forward for our nation.”
Minister Adutwum also announced plans to complete a sports complex at Kumasi High School, supported by the GETFUND Secretariat, to enhance facilities for student development.
“Kumasi High School, with its stellar academic performance, deserves world-class amenities,” Minister Adutwum declared. “We will ensure secondary education meets global standards, reflecting our dedication to educational excellence.”
