Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, Director of Legal Affairs for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has responded strongly to Professor Baffuor Agyeman-Duah’s recent comments suggesting that an NDC victory in the upcoming elections would not significantly alter Ghana’s economic situation.

In a discussion on the Key Points program on TV3, Professor Agyeman-Duah argued that the economic situation in Ghana would remain largely unchanged regardless of whether the NDC wins.

He suggested that the NDC would be bound to continue with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program and its associated conditions, implying that substantial improvements were unlikely.

Agyeman-Duah’s remarks highlighted his concerns about Ghana’s current democracy, which he believes has not benefited the populace. He also pointed out issues such as debt burden and dissatisfaction among the youth.

Edudzi Tameklo, however, vehemently disagrees with Agyeman-Duah’s assessment. “I disagree with Professor Agyeman-Duah.

Unless he suggests that we should continue with the current situation, he cannot claim that nothing will change under an NDC administration,” Tameklo said.

He emphasized that former President John Dramani Mahama, the NDC’s flagbearer, is well-positioned to effectively address Ghana’s economic challenges.

Tameklo highlighted Mahama’s experience and track record in governance as critical assets for tackling the country’s issues.

“His experience from previous governance puts him in a better position to lead the country towards meaningful change,” Tameklo asserted.

The debate between Tameklo and Agyeman-Duah underscores a broader conversation about the future direction of Ghana’s economy and governance.

While Agyeman-Duah’s comments reflect scepticism about any significant shifts in policy or outcomes, Tameklo’s response stresses confidence in the NDC’s ability to effect positive change under Mahama’s leadership.
