Ghanaian-born Edward Osei-Nketia represented New Zealand at the IAAF World Athletics Championship in Doha.
The 18-year-old competed in the Men’s 100metres event and finished fifth in Heat 2 with a time of 10.24s, missing out a semi-final place in a race which was dominated by American and former World Champion Justin Gatlin and Canadian sprint king Andre De Grasse.
Osei-Nketia, son of former Ghana Athlete Augustine “Gus” Nketia opted to represent the Oceania country in only his first major senior competition having won the 2019 Oceania Championships in Townsville, a competition which formed his qualification to the IAAF Championship in Doha.
The teenager is eligible to represent Ghana despite competing for New Zealand. His father represented Ghana until 1991 before switching allegiance to New Zealand.
