The Effiduase Church of Pentecost (COP), in the Sekyere East District of Ashanti, on May Day mobilized its members who spent five hours cleaning up the premises of the town’s police station.
Members of the church numbering over 300 cleared a heap of refuse dump and weeded around the compound.
The occasion was also used to evangelize the police staff on duty and the inmates of the police cells.
Reverend Alexander Kofi Mireku, the District Pastor, speaking to the Ghana News Agency said the exercise was part of the Church’s contribution in providing the Police Station, a cleaner working environment to enable them give off their best in providing security for the people.
He affirmed the Church’s believe in “Cleanliness is second to Godliness” and called for collective efforts by all and sundry in ensuring environmental cleanliness to help prevent the spread of communicable diseases.
“A clean environment will always help to promote the health and well-being of the people, thus, reduce the disease burden and accompanying high cost of treatment”, he added.
Rev. Mireku urged other religious bodies to make the message of cleanliness part of their teachings and their daily lifestyle in order to impact positive change on environmental cleanliness in the country.
Police Superintendent Asare Bediako, the Sekyere East District Commander commended the church for the gesture and called on all churches to replicate the initiative especially on national holidays.
