Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi is paying a state visit to China from Saturday to next Tuesday, during which he will also attend the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit in Beijing.
Sisi was born in the Egyptian capital of Cairo in 1954. He graduated from the Egyptian Military Academy in 1977.
After serving as Egypt’s military attache in Saudi Arabia, he returned to Egypt in 2008 to command Egypt’s northern military zone and then rose to director of military intelligence.
In 2012, he was appointed minister of defense.
Sisi won a landslide victory in the 2014 presidential election and was sworn into office in June 2014. He was re-elected in 2018 for a second term.
He paid a state visit to China in December 2014, and attended events marking the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World’s Anti-Fascist War in September 2015.
In September 2016, the Egyptian president joined the G20 summit in Hangzhou, China. In September 2017, he came to China to attend the Dialogue of Emerging Market and Developing Countries. Enditem
