Election 2024: Western North NDC Demands Answers Over Bloated Register

The National Democratic Congress in the Western North Region organized a press conference against the Electoral Commission’s ‘lackadaisical’ handling of the 2024 voter registration and exhibition exercise.

The party expressed serious concerns regarding some irregularities detected in the voters register exhibition, a pivotal process in determining the parliamentary and presidential election outcome of December 7th, 2024.

According to the NDC, the historical antecedent of the Jean Mensah-led Electoral Commission in the previous election and the current happenings regarding manipulated figures exhibited in the Western North Region and other reported similar incidents nationwide provide cause for grave concern.

The Western North NDC leadership noted that it was treating this matter seriously.

The party said it was deeply troubled by what appears to be deliberate inflation of voter register figures by the Electoral Commission in various constituencies in the Region.

The party’s regional secretary, Mr. George Ofori Dankwah, alleged that in the Akontombra constituency, the transfer figures were inflated by 1,549, a discrepancy that suggests an attempt to benefit the incumbent New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament.

Mr. George Ofori Dankwa said the party reported similar issues in other constituencies such as Sefwi Wiawso, Juaboso, Bia East, and Bia West.

The NDC, therefore, asked the EC to impress upon its officials nationwide to rectify these discrepancies by removing the excess names and providing a clear explanation for these anomalies in the affected constituencies.

The party demanded immediate transfer of EC officials from the affected constituencies because, according to the NDC, they are biased, dishonest, and inefficient.

Mr. George Ofori Dankwa the NDC would insist on a thorough investigation into these irregularities and those found responsible should face the full rigors of the law.
