The Electoral Commission has initiated the voter register exhibition exercise across all polling stations nationwide, marking the beginning of a critical phase for prospective voters to verify their details in the provisional register.

Despite the widespread launch, the first day of the exercise saw a notably low turnout, with no political party representatives present at the stations.

The exhibition exercise is being conducted at 33,367 polling stations throughout the country. The goal is to allow voters to cross-check their names and ensure accuracy in the provisional register before the December 7 elections.

Voter participation was sparse in the Odododiodoo Constituency in the Greater Accra Region.

At the Jamestown police station, which accommodates two centres—polling stations 1 and 2—only five individuals had checked their names by 11:00 a.m. on the first day.

Polling station 1 has a provisional register with 263 names and two exceptions, while polling station 2 lists 236 eligible voters. Additionally, 29 voters transferred their registration away from this polling station, with 15 new voters registered.

The Sacred Heart Technical Institute polling centre reported similar levels of inactivity, with only six out of 740 registered voters checking their names by midday.

Meanwhile, at the Akanmajen Mantse palace, which hosts three polling stations (1A, 1B, and 2), residents continued their daily routines with little engagement in the registration process.

Residents like Motsoo have expressed reluctance to participate, citing prioritization of work and scepticism towards political candidates.

“I don’t have time to check my name in the register; my work is more important,” Motsoo said. Her neighbour echoed similar sentiments, stating a lack of faith in the political process.

In contrast, Lovelace Nii Lamptey Wallace-Bruce remains optimistic about increased participation on subsequent days. “I have not checked my name yet, but I plan to do so soon,” he noted.

The Electoral Commission has allocated seven days for this exhibition exercise.

Voters whose names appear on the exception list will be disqualified from voting in the December 7 elections, underscoring the importance of participating in this verification process.
