The Electoral Commission (EC) will hold balloting for the 24 presidential candidates in the upcoming December 7 elections on Friday, September 20.

In a letter to candidates, the EC confirmed that all nominees completed the nomination process.

“On behalf of the Electoral Commission, I am pleased to inform you that your candidate has completed the nomination process and qualifies to contest as a presidential candidate for the 2024 Presidential Election. Congratulations,” the letter stated.

The balloting will occur at the EC’s corporate head office at 4 PM. Twelve of the candidates represent political parties, while twelve are running as independents.

Although 39 individuals picked up nomination forms, only 24 submitted their completed applications by the deadline. Two candidates submitted forms after the 5 PM cutoff. The EC will determine their eligibility.

Notable candidates from political parties include Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Akpaloo of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), and Rev. Christian Kwabena Andrews of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM).

Independent candidates include Alan Kyerematen, Nana Kwame Bediako, and Samuel Apea-Danquah. The upcoming balloting is crucial as Ghana prepares for its general elections, with all eyes on the presidential candidates.
