Derek Darkwa is in the Dutch U16 squad
European giants Netherlands continue their use of Ghanaian players in their various youth squads by including two gifted Ghanaian teenagers in their U16 squad.
Defender Elton Thomas Kusi who plays for Vitesse Arnhem’s U16 side and striker Derek Darkwa whose goal-scoring tirades is a talking point in the Netherlands have both been included in their squad for next month’s international friendly tournament in the USA.
Darkwa, 15, has bagged as many as 20 goals for Utrecht’s U16 side this season and is expected to play a big role in the Dutch’s campaign at the tournament which kicks off at December 2.
While at the tournament the two players will play against Brazil, the United States and England.
Memphis Depay, who plays for Manchester City, is a senior Netherlands national team player and has a Ghanaian father.
Ajax Amsterdam’s Kenny Tete is also of Ghanaian roots while his team-mate Leeroy Owusu has featured prominently in the Netherlands U20 squad.
Elton Acolatse (Ajax Amsterdam) has also been capped at youth level by the Netherlands.
