Hon Thomas Duanab, DCE for Talensi in the Upper East Region has averred that 2022 will be a tough year for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as its gets into various party positions elections from polling station to presidential. In view of this, the youth must eschew the temptation of attacking opponents particularly on social media.

Adding, “If you don’t support a particular candidate there is no need to attack that person”. Further asked them not only to tone down but be careful of what they write and post on social media.

He was addressing the Talensi Youth for Change, an NPP youth group in Tongo who paid a courtesy call on him recently. The DCE also advised the Youth for Change to embark on a membership drive by engaging their peers in the various second cycle schools in the region.

Citing Bawku and Bolga SHS as schools they could visit to engage their peers who recently finished their exams and may be eligible to vote in the next general elections to come on board.

He urged them to make every effort to engage as most of the youth may have reached the voting age and the time to bring them on board is now. Hon Duanab notes this will help grow not only their membership but also the party as well. The Youth for Change played a crucial role in the last elections in the Talensi constituency.
They were advised to get involve in the various up-coming constituency elections by contesting some of the polling stations positions and stop complaining that they have no time. Hon. Duanab also informed them to send him their ideas on simply memos for discussions.

Touching on some of the negatives that work against the party, Hon. Duanab, who contested on Npp ticket since the Talensi bi-elections urged them to stop the constant bickering of “I have not gotten anything” syndrome and work hard to accomplish the developmental needs of the district.

“It is too early in the day to determine who will represent the constituency” as he often gets calls seeking to know who will represent the constituency and asked to be assisted to concentrate on the business of the Assembly. He was disturbed that the phone calls he gets regarding who represents the NPP as a member of Parliament for the constituency will destruct him and that there is a lot to be done than talking about representation at this time.

Further admonishing the youth, the Constituency Secretary, Daniel Ziba explained that whatever that is posted on social media reminds for a long time to come and cannot be easily erased. He said it was regretting that some of the posting has led to nasty exchanges which opponents have screen shot and posted back to them. A situation he says did not other well for the party in the constituency.
