Togo former captain and Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor has quit the team six months after his return, denouncing a lack of ambition and anarchy in the country’s football. The Sparrow Hawks coach Frenchman Didier Six published a list of 35 players on Friday, including the former Arsenal player, for the 2014 Fifa World Cup and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying, but the 28-year-old said he would not be available for those games.

“If it’s just a matter of wearing Togo jersey for the sake of patriotism, I’m not in for that,” Adebayor told Lome-based Radio Fréquence 1 on Saturday.

“We are not talking about money or match bonuses here. I want to see and feel the zeal of officials to move our country’s football forward. That was how we were able to qualify for the 2010 World Cup. But today, nobody is interested in our football. The Togo FA has not changed. The new occupants are as terrible as their predecessors,” he added.

“I’m not retiring from international football. I’ll come back when the conditions have improved and when they want us to play for win,” he said.

Adebayor spurned the Hawks’ last game lost to Kenya 2-1 in Nairobi. Togo will begin their World Cup second round qualifying campaign against Libya on June 3 and DR Congo on June 10. They will play host to Kenya on June 17 for the return leg of the 2013 Afcon qualifying.
