Enough Of This Insult-Finance Commissioners Tells Finance Minister

Again, Finance commissioners boycott FAAC meeting

The forum of Finance Commissioners from all the 36 states of the Federation on Thursday worked out on the Minister and FAAC committee at the June edition of the Federal Account Allocation Committee meeting (FAAC). This is the second time the state commissioners are having dispute with the Ministry of Finance this year over attitude during their monthly meetings.

Addressing journalists to drive home their grievances, the Chairman of the Finance forum, Mr. Timothy Odaa, Ebonyi State, attributed the boycott to non-implementation of decisions and resolutions of the forum.

In the words of Mr Timothy Odaa, “We have endured enough of this insult and disrespect from the Minister of Sate for Finance, Dr,Yerima Ngama,  especially the non implementation for the May, 2013 plenary session which have remained inconclusive based on the fact that the arrears of February was not paid and no cogent reason was given for that, noting that the augmentation passed at last month (May) was not also paid”.

He continued, “This month account based on the report we had from our respective Accountants General of our states, it appears to be uncertain on reality. We had taken a lot of disappointment from the administration of the current leadership of FAAC which by all indications has become a great failure”.

Daily Times found out that the main reason for the commissioners grievance was the decision by the federal government to deny them their request of further withdrawal of one billion dollars from the excess crude account which the federal government expressed fear that may lead to further depletion of the account, adding that N160 billion
owed them by the federal government must be paid before they can attend any other meeting.
