Mr Ernest Bediako Sampong, Chief Executive Officer of Ernest Chemist Limited, has been elected as the new President of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Ghana (PMAG), to steer the affairs of the Association for a two-year term.
He takes over from Mr Kwasi Amponsah Efah, Chief Executive of Efpak Pharmaceuticals Limited, whose term of office expired last month.
At an Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Accra on the theme: ??The Importance of the Ghanaian Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Industry, and why it must be supported by Government,? Mr Gokal Rao was elected Vice President, while the post of General Secretary went to Nana Adjoa Turkson.
Other Executive Members elected at the meeting were Mr Kofi Nsiah Poku, Treasurer, and Mr Yaw Opare Asamoah, a Representative of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI).
The rest were Mr Dhana Tripathi and Mr Daniel Kissi, both Executive Members, and Mr Kwasi Amponsah Efah, Ex-Officio Member.
Mr Kofi Totobi Quakyi, Board Chairman of Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), who sworn in the Executive Members, re-iterated government?s commitment of supporting the Association to make it vibrant.
Mr Bediako thanked the Association for the confidence reposed in him, and said he will do everything possible to ensure that it becomes recognized as a reputable and powerful one.
He gave the assurance that the company would produce high quality and affordable drugs, and also produce about 60 percent of the country?s drug requirements.
