The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has provided an update on the ongoing renovation of Essipong Stadium, stating that the facility’s roofing phase is underway and nearing completion.
Initially launched in 2021 with a budget of US$3 million, the renovation project faced delays, leaving the stadium deteriorated. Minister Ussif acknowledged the challenges but emphasized significant progress in restoring the stadium to operational status.
“As we speak, the contractor is roofing Essipong Stadium,” Minister Ussif confirmed, highlighting efforts to address multiple structural issues. He explained that the renovation scope included blasting and coating damaged metals to enhance durability.
“We have provided the necessary resources to facilitate the project’s completion,” Minister Ussif assured, expressing optimism about Essipong Stadium’s imminent revival. He emphasized that despite the current state during construction, the facility is on track to return to active use.
The renovation of Essipong Stadium represents a pivotal initiative in Ghana’s sports infrastructure development. It aims to improve facilities for athletes and sports enthusiasts alike.
