Ethiopia has launched a National Employment Policy and Strategy (NEPS) to provide better employment opportunities for its large youth population, the labor minister said on Tuesday.
An estimated 70 percent of its 100 million population is in the youth category, and ensuring employment for them is vital to the country’s long-term prosperity and stability.
Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Abdulfetah Abdulahi told reporters that the NEPS is designed to eradicate poverty and ease unemployment.
“NEPS will give particular attention to people with disabilities and women by adopting practical and supportive strategies that ensure equal participation in labor market,” Abdulahi said.
“A National Employment Council that evaluates and monitors the implementation of the policy at all levels will be established soon,” he added. Enditem
